Here it is, everyone’s biggest fear – weather ruining your wedding day. The good news is that it doesn’t actually have to ruin your day! Weather is unpredictable, do not waste your time worrying about something you have zero control over. Also keep in mind that rain on your wedding day is good luck! It means washing away the past and a clean slate to start from, and the rain will nourish your relationship.

Three Ways to Deal with Weather on Your Wedding Day
Have A Wedding Day Backup Plan

The good news is, if you booked an outdoor venue, they most likely already have a backup plan for rain. When you book a wedding a year in advance there is no telling what the weather is going to be like day of. Many outdoor venues have tents ready to be put up, and if you are a week out from the wedding and see the weather is going to be bad, you can DIY clear umbrellas or ponchos for the photo-ops. This is where your bridesmaids and groomsmen come in – send them out to collect umbrellas, ponchos, towels, rain boots and anything else you can think of to add to the rainy day.

Get the Hair and Makeup Team Onboard

This is where the details of your contract come in handy – make sure that your hair and makeup artists are available to stay longer, if need be, even if there is an overtime fee. It will be worth it to keep the hair and makeup team until after the ceremony to do hair and makeup touch ups and use maybe better, higher quality products that will stay through the rain and emotions of the day. It also might be worth adjusting your original look to be more weather compliant.

Keep Your Guests in the Loop

Guests will be wondering about what your plan is when the weekly forecast is available. This is when having a wedding website really comes in handy! Update them all with a potential rain plan so they can dress and bring what they may need accordingly. There’s nothing you can do to stop the rain but there is a lot you can do to keep your day magical. Some of the best wedding photos I have seen have been taken in the rain.

At the end of the day, there is nothing you can do to stop the weather from happening. Photographers have plenty of experience in this area and will capture the raw beauty of the day so you have amazing memories when you look back on the day. Outdoor venues are ready and prepped for this, just make sure having a rain plan is part of the discussion from the beginning. If you picked the right people, your wedding party will rally behind you and do anything they can to help you prepare for bad weather and make changes to the day if need be. I promise, rain on your wedding day is not as bad as it sounds. Go with the flow and see how beautifully things turn out for you!
